The popular television series “how to Do florida,” which highlights local destinations and outdoor activities, is once again featuring Lake County, this time in an upcoming backpacking episode.
“My passion is spending time with my family in natural Florida and with Lake County’s trails, springs, and lakes, it’s the perfect place to do just that,” said “how to Do florida” host Chad Crawford.
The episode first premiered in the Orlando market in August, but will air again on Fox Sports Sun on Saturday, Dec. 26 at 8 a.m. and on
Tuesday, Dec. 29 at 2 p.m.
Crawford, along with his daughter Kasey, begin their trip in downtown Umatilla, known as the gateway to the Ocala National Forest, and spend two days hiking the federally-designated Florida National Scenic Trail, discovering the endemic Florida Scrub-Jay, stopping by the Clearwater Lake Recreation Area just outside of Paisley, making a pit stop in horse country at the Grand Oaks Resort and Carriage Museum, and finally completing their journey at Alexander Springs.
“We had a full moon the first night camping so we just sat under the moon light talking for hours… that’s a moment I’ll never forget,” said Crawford. “My daughter Kasey’s favorite part was jumping in the cool spring after hiking all day.”
Last year, “how to Do florida.” filmed a lake hopping adventure along a series of local paddling, or “Blueway” trails on the Harris Chain of Lakes, highlighting Lake County’s “Real Florida. Real Close.” branding.
