Offering field trips to birding hotspots and wildflower sanctuaries, and bringing some the nation’s top nature experts to the area, Lake County is proud to announce the 5th Annual Wings and Wildflowers Festival, being held Oct. 14-16.

As in previous years, Lake County is partnering with the city of Leesburg in hosting the event again at the beautiful 64-acre Venetian Gardens, 201 E. Dixie Ave. On the western shore of Lake Harris, Venetian Gardens features landscaped islands separated by tranquil canals, and is an ideal bird watching location.

Many festival vendors will be housed inside the Leesburg Community Building, while exhibitors and nature-oriented, family-friendly shows will be performed on the main stage outside.

The three-day festival will showcase Lake County as a premier birding destination, highlighting acres of preserves, forests, and passive parklands including the Lake Apopka Restoration Area, Ferndale Preserve and the Ocala National Forest, to name a few.

This year’s keynote speakers include Eric Draper, executive Director of Audubon Florida, the state program of National Audubon Society, and Janisse Ray, a naturalist, and the author of six books, her most recent “The Seed Underground: A Growing Revolution to Save Food,” published in 2012.

Last year’s festival offered more than 100 trips and educational programs, many of which were free, attracting a record 5,000 visitors to all corners of Lake County. The goal of the Wings & Wildflowers Festival is to enhance awareness and appreciation of Lake County’s quality of life and support environmental initiatives on behalf of citizens and visitors alike.
